Our story

Bright Futures Canada is a student-led nonprofit providing free 2–12 tutoring, in person and online, to kids in Kingston and — as of our newest chapter — Halifax. Our team of 60+ university tutors has already delivered more than 200 hours of academic support — one-on-one attention that a stretched classroom often can't provide.

In Kingston, our founding chapter, we work inside four partner schools — John Graves Simcoe Public School, Winston Churchill Public School, Central Public School, and Kingston Secondary School — meeting kids where they already are, after the school day ends. Halifax Bright Futures is just getting started, with its first in-person partner school on the way. For students outside a partner school, or in a city we haven't reached yet, we run a growing online tutoring program so that geography never decides who gets help.

Every tutor is a current university student, which means the help we offer comes with something textbooks don't: someone close enough in age to remember exactly which part of grade 8 math felt impossible, and patient enough to explain it again.

What "student-led" actually means

There's no distant board making decisions about what our kids need. The people tutoring on Tuesday afternoon are the same people running registration, coordinating with schools, and deciding how to grow the program — which keeps us close to what's actually working in the room, and quick to fix what isn't.
